Payment is expected at the time services are rendered
and is addressed at the beginning of each session, in
order to facilitate maximum focus on therapy for the
remainder of the appointment time. Heart and Mind
Counseling accepts cash, checks, or credit cards.
“Out of Network” Insurance Benefits
Rick Carlson is an “Out-of-Network” provider for
most major insurance companies. Clients using this
insurance benefit pay for therapy at the time of
service prior to the session, and then submit costs to
their insurance company for partial reimbursement,
depending on coverage limitations.
“Out-of-Network” services generally do not
require insurance company treatment plans,
coordination of care, and case management,
submitting therapy expenses to insurance does
require a “diagnosis” of a current mental
health disorder. This will be discussed with you
before being listed on your detailed receipt.

Health Savings or Medical Flex Savings Account (HSA/FSA)
Some clients submit their receipts for reimbursement

with pre-tax dollars.
Many counseling clients choose to pay for their
counseling personally, regardless of insurance
